Let's Roll! The Art of Performing Seating and Mobility Evaluations

Back by popular demand and all new!  Dr. Davin has designed this one-day seminar to provide health care professionals and therapists with a working knowledge of performing seating and mobility evaluations, troubleshooting existing seating systems, and the skills to incorporate assistive technology into therapeutic practice to increase their client’s independence.  Evaluation and assessment techniques and procedures will be presented, including common diagnoses which often warrant alternative mobility, controls, or other forms of assistive technology. Information regarding a variety of cutting edge equipment including mobility bases, seating, and positioning options will be reviewed, as well as an abundance of features which may be obtained to increase the client’s overall functional independence. Funding sources will be identified and participants will receive detailed instruction regarding the development of letters of medical necessity, as well as key elements to include in such documents for equipment approval. 
 
For those currently struggling with patients in poor sitting positions, whether it is in a skilled nursing facility, acute care center, home health setting or elsewhere, this class is a must see!

This one-day seminar, produced by Dr. Kirsten Davin, the creator of the long running seminar, Let’s Roll!  The Art of Performing Seating and Mobility Evaluations, which has reached over 12,000 therapists across the United States, is designed to provide health care professionals and therapists with a hands-on, working knowledge of wheelchair seating and positioning systems.  Participants will be able to identify postural issues and deformities which may be present within a client and incorporate those considerations into the creation of a custom seating system.  Hands-on, interactive techniques will be implemented as attendees gain knowledge on pressure injury, pressure mapping, microclimate, troubleshooting challenging seating issues, and leave the course with a multitude of  seating/positioning concepts, theory, tangible knowledge, tips, and cost saving techniques which can be put to immediate use in practice!

Dr. Kirsten Davin, OTD, OTR/L, ATP, SMS, EMT-BD, CFF-II
Dr. Davin, OTDR/L, ATP, SMS, is a veteran Occupational Therapist with over 18 years in the industry. She is a  certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and Seating and Mobility Specialist (SMS), and perhaps best known for her wheelchair seating courses, including, Let's Roll! The Art of Performing Seating and Mobility Evaluations.  She toured nationally teaching her course on workplace burnout, titled, Beating Burnout in the Healthcare Setting - Achieving a Strong Work Life Balance and in the fall of 2018 is launching her newest course for PT, PTAs and OT, OTAs, Acute Care & ICU Rehab - Strategies for the Medically Complex Patient!

Dr. Davin’s experience extends beyond the realm of inpatient populations into the home health field. She is the owner of a successful home health-based private practice, Escape Mobility Solutions, LLC, which is dedicated to evaluating individuals for custom forms of assistive technology, such as power and manual wheelchairs, seating and positioning systems, and augmentative and alternative communication as well as the provision of continuing education on a national level. 

She has conducted hundreds of workshops on an international basis, regarding seating/positioning, assistive technology, pressure injury prevention and work-life balance, and is an engaging speaker who strives to make learning fun.

Dr. Davin completed her undergrad studies in occupational therapy, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2001, and received her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy in 2007, from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah. In November, 2016, she recieved the Home Medical Equipment Woman of the Year Award, a national recognition for her role in healthcare in the United States.

Aside from her professional involvement in occupational therapy, Dr. Davin currently serves as Deputy Fire Chief and the Medical Officer for the Pleasant Plains Fire Department, in her hometown of Pleasant Plains, Illinois.
Jean Oesterreich, BSN, RNC-MNN
Jean Oeterreich, pronounced “a-strike” is a veteran educator of over 30 years and clinical instructor.  She is extremely dedicated to the practice and field of mother-child nursing.  Jean graduated in 1983 from Millikin University with a Bachelors’ degree in nursing, and has dedicated her career to the field of maternal-newborn care.  She recently obtained her advanced certificate in maternal-newborn nursing via NCC in 2006.  Jean has a wide variety of teaching experience at the  regional and university level, on various nursing topics.

Jean has been married 31 years and raised 3 children while working full time and undertaking a multitude of volunteer and extracurricular activities within her church, the regional Pregnancy Care Center, and a amongst a variety of other endeavors.  She exhibits an excellent example of strong work-life balance, and conveys her knowledge in a fun, entertaining fashion within our Beating Burnout in the Healthcare Setting - Achieving a Strong Work Life Balance course!
Malynda Milner, PTA/L
Malynda 'Mindy' Milner is a senior licensed Physical Therapy Assistant with nearly a decade of experience in the acute care setting. In addition to her acute care experience, Mindy has also served as the Eastern Regional Marketing Director for Precision Seating Solutions, LLC, the manufacturer of the nation's first affordable pressure mapping system.  This role has afforded her the opportunity to serve as an international liaison and marketing specialist as well and expand her specialty into the seating and positioning realm.

She received her Associates Degree in Applied Arts and Sciences from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and has extensive knowledge and background in various acute care arenas, including level 1 Trauma Center and ICU.  Mindy currently teaches on a national level, and is currently teaching Dr. Davin's course, Let's Roll! The Art of Performing Seating and Mobility Evaluations.  She also serves as a clinical instructor and a mentor to new PTA graduates, and routinely educates 2nd year medical students and Registered Nurses on basic transfer training and proper handling of patients in the hospital setting.


Trisha Farmer, COTA/L
Trisha Farmer, is a driven and experienced Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant who is passionate about her work as a therapist and an educator. She has extensive experience in the acute care arena, specifically within a nationally recognized stroke center and regional burn center. Most of her work in the acute care setting has focused on complex stroke and trauma cases. Trish currently provides seminars on a national level and has experience teaching Dr. Davin's courses, Let's Roll! The Art of Performing Seating and Mobility Evaluations and Beating Burnout in the Healthcare Setting - Achieving a Strong Work Life Balance.

Trisha graduated from Lewis and Clark Community College with an Associates degree in Applied Science in the field of Occupational Therapy as an OT Assistant.  She regularly attends conferences and workshops, prides herself in evidence-based practice, with a goal of implementing the most up-to-date and motivating treatment plans available.  In addition to her work in occupational therapy, Trish is currently pursuing her EMS certification.   


Leslie Ladage, COTA/L
Leslie Ladage, is a senior Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with extensive experience in the acute care and seating/positioning realms.  She received an Associate’s degree in Liberal arts in 2006 as well as an Associate’s degree in Applied Sciences, achieving her OT assistant certification soon after. 

Leslie has vast knowledge and background in treating patients in multiple areas including Level 1 trauma center, Regional Burn Center and various intensive care units.  In addition to her acute care experience, Leslie has also served as the Western Regional Marketing Director for Precision Seating Solutions, LLC, the manufacturer of the nation's first affordable pressure mapping system.  This role has afforded her the opportunity to serve as an international liaison and marketing specialist as well and expand her specialty into the seating and positioning realm.

She serves as a clinical instructor and a mentor to new COTA graduates, and routinely educates 2nd year medical students and Registered Nurses on basic transfer training and proper handling of patients in the hospital setting.  She is a faculty member for Performance Health University, where she speaks nationally on wheelchair seating and positioning, and currently teaches Dr. Davin's Let's Roll! The Art of Performing Seating and Mobility Evaluations.
